What the number leaves out
- Taxes. EIA’s survey prices exclude state and local taxes, so your bill will be higher.
- Delivery fees and small-order charges. Many dealers charge extra below a minimum delivery, often 100 to 150 gallons.
- Your dealer’s own price. The survey gives a statewide average; prices vary between dealers, towns and payment terms (cash, budget plan, pre-buy).
- Propane tank capacity. Propane tanks are filled to about 80% of their size, so a 500-gallon tank takes about 400 gallons from empty.
