Questions
What is the average propane price in the Midwest this week?
$2.156 per gallon in the EIA survey of October 19, 2026, released October 21, 2026. It is the Midwest (PADD 2) regional average for residential deliveries and does not include taxes. That is 4.4 cents more than the October 12, 2026 survey.
Is propane more expensive than a year ago in the Midwest?
Yes. The October 20, 2025 survey had $1.920, so this week’s price is 12.3% higher.
Is this the price my propane dealer will charge?
Not exactly. EIA publishes average residential prices for whole states and regions, not individual dealers. Your price also depends on taxes (not included here), delivery size, payment terms and any service plan. Use the average as a benchmark when you call for quotes.
How often are propane prices updated?
EIA surveys propane retailers every Monday from October through March and publishes the results on Wednesday. From April to September it surveys once a month. The next release date EIA lists is October 28, 2026.
Where does this propane price come from?
From EIA’s weekly Heating Oil and Propane Update (the State Heating Oil and Propane Program), survey of October 19, 2026, released October 21, 2026. The original table is on eia.gov. This site does not run its own survey or forecast prices; it republishes EIA’s residential prices, which exclude taxes.
What does PADD mean in these propane prices?
PADD stands for Petroleum Administration for Defense District, the numbered regions EIA uses for petroleum data: PADD 1 (East Coast), made up of PADD 1A (New England), PADD 1B (Central Atlantic) and PADD 1C (Lower Atlantic); PADD 2 (Midwest); PADD 3 (Gulf Coast); PADD 4 (Rocky Mountain). Midwest is a regional (PADD) average, not a state figure.
How much does it cost to fill a Midwest propane tank at this price?
At $2.156 a gallon, 400 gallons (a 500-gallon tank filled to 80%) costs $862.40 before taxes and delivery fees.
